What is sealed-bid, and why does it favor the buyer?

What is sealed-bid, and why does it favor the buyer?

What sealed bidding means

On MarbleMap, a buyer opens a request describing the stone they need — material, finish, dimensions, quantity, destination. Suppliers respond with offers. The "sealed" part is the rule that makes the marketplace fair: no supplier can see rival offers, or even how many offers a request has received. Each offer is prepared blind, against the request alone.

Why it favors the buyer

In an open auction, suppliers watch each other and race to the bottom — and quality, packing and service quietly race down with the price. Sealed bidding removes the spiral: a supplier's only strategy is to put their genuinely best offer on the table. The buyer sees every offer side by side; sellers see only their own.

AI then flags the offer it evaluates as strongest — but it never decides. The decision stays with the buyer, with every offer visible and comparable.

Why suppliers accept it

A sealed process protects serious suppliers too. Their pricing is never exposed to competitors, their offers are judged on substance rather than on undercutting, and MarbleMap charges no commission on the deal — what you offer is what the deal is.

Fairness rules like these are not marketing copy; they are how the platform is built. The full list — including double-blind reviews and verified-business checks — is on our Trust page.
