No One Sees Your Price in Sealed Bidding — Your Profile Does the Selling
On open marketplaces the game is familiar: everyone sees everyone's price, the numbers race to the bottom, and the job often goes not to the best supplier but to whoever shaved the last cent. MarbleMap deliberately closed that game. Natural stone demands run on sealed bidding: you submit your offer, your competitors submit theirs, and nobody sees anybody's numbers.
That design has one clear consequence for suppliers. In an environment where you cannot maneuver on price, the buyer is left with a single basis for comparison: the company behind each offer. When the envelopes open, who you are speaks alongside the number, and your profile does that speaking for you.
Four steps: VAT, logo, certification, portfolio
The profile completion bar follows a set order: first your VAT or tax number, then your logo, then one certification, and finally portfolio images. Our reading of that sequence is simple: each step builds another layer of trust on the other side, and buyers tend to be persuaded in roughly the same order. The order is worth taking seriously, because each step does more than add a line to your page; it closes one of the question marks in the buyer's mind.
VAT number: proof there is a registered company behind the screen
A VAT number is the first signal that a real, registered business sits behind the profile. Once you save it, your verification status may show as under review; that is a status indicator, not an active review running in the background. The self-service path to the Verified business badge is not open yet; the badge is planned for a later release, and for now eligibility questions go through the support team. And rest easy: your VAT number is displayed masked on your profile.
Logo: the signature on the envelope
A profile that is only a name reads like an unsigned letter. Logo upload is available on every plan and applies the moment you select the file. Being remembered as a brand while a buyer moves between offers is a small step with an outsized effect.
Certification: the document behind the claim
Your profile shows only how many certification files you hold; the files themselves are never opened to anyone through the profile. Your competitors can never inspect your documents, but a buyer can tell at a glance that they are dealing with a certified producer. If a buyer wants the details, you share them yourself in the conversation; control stays with you.
Portfolio: the stone itself
In natural stone, the product has the final word. Portfolio images are the proof itself: the block out of the quarry, the slab out of the factory, the finished project. It sits last on the bar, but do not read that as unimportance; in our view identity simply comes before the showcase.
What stays hidden: visibility is under your control
Completing your profile does not mean exposing yourself to the internet. Your phone number is never shown publicly. Your VAT stays masked, and certification files are never opened to anyone through the profile; only the file count is visible. Beyond that, your profile is entirely closed to search engines and to non-members: the page is visible to members on the platform, not to anyone browsing the open web. On Pro you also choose your website's visibility, public or connections only. The preview shows a read-only version of your page as others see it, so you never have to guess what is exposed. In short, this information exists to build trust, not to broadcast you.
The Pro showcase: a showroom behind the envelope
The free plan covers identity: company name, country, logo, and a description of up to 280 characters. That is enough to work with, and locked Pro fields are optional; leaving them empty never blocks you from publishing. Pro turns the profile into a storefront. A cover image gives the page character, the portfolio gallery displays up to twelve images of your work, and the certifications section carries up to ten PDF files. Capability tags put your specialties front and center. The Why choose us section lets you state what sets you apart, and the profile FAQ answers a buyer's questions before they are asked. The description limit grows to 2000 characters, so there is finally room to tell your story.
Not bidding mechanics, but the strategy that wins the bid
We already walked through how to place a sealed bid in the video we published; this article is about a different question. When the envelopes open, why should the buyer pick yours? Between two suppliers with similar numbers, the one with the complete profile wins, because the buyer has no other data to reduce their risk. Sealed bidding protects your price: no one can see your offer and undercut it. But the same structure hands the job of explaining your difference to your profile. MarbleMap charges no commission and payments never pass through the platform, so the deal you win and the relationship you build are entirely yours. The supplier side runs on subscriptions, with a weekly offer allowance set by your plan. If every offer counts, every envelope deserves a strong profile behind it.
Seal the envelope with strength: start today
If you are a buyer, you start free: publish what you need, let sealed offers come to you, and make the comparison yourself; advanced features live on the paid buyer plans, Pro and Business. If you are a supplier, give your profile ten minutes today: add your VAT number, upload your logo, complete your certification and portfolio in that order, then place your sealed bid on demands from vetted buyers. You will never see your competitors' prices, and you do not need to, because it is your profile, not the number alone, that sells you. marblemap.co
